Lots of updates after a long delay

Our first Christmas in the new house

It's been a little while since I updated the blog, so I thought I would fill in some gaps. Since the last post, we had Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years! Sheesh!

Charlie and Rachel had lots of fun together on Christmas morning at Grandpa's house!

Charlie has been doing quite a bit of growing and changing. At his last doctor's appointment he was 30.25" tall and weighed 23lbs. He is staying steady in the 25th percentile, but that doesn't really mean anything as long as he's growing at the same rate every time. He has a bunch of teeth- including molars- but he'll only let you see them if you flip him upside down! He has added quite a few words to his vocabulary: he says "fire truck!" and "school bus" when he sees them, "bottle" and "bi bi" for his binky, "bop baah" for grandpa, "Elmo" when you hand him the elmo book, and when he eats something he really likes, he dances back and forth and says "yummy! yummy! yummy!". When he gets hungry he crawls to the kitchen and does the sign for "eat" in sign language. When its time to change his diaper, he waves his hand in front of his face as if to say "I'm stinky!".. which he usually is! ;)

The day after Christmas we left Mishawaka with our pop up camper to drive down to Sanibel Island in Florida. Charlie loved the beach and the water! We would hold his hands and walk in the sand at the edge of the water and every once in a while he would bend over to swoosh his hand in the water to imitate the way we bend over to pick up a shell. What a goof! We are storing the camper down in Florida so that we can go down to Sanibel and always have a place to stay. It's one of Eddie's favorite places in the whole world!

One of the other things Charlie is getting better at is feeding himself with a fork and spoon. Honestly, he's better with a fork. He still turns the spoon upside down right before he gets to his mouth- dumping everything down his front. But really, if you think about it, the curve of the spoon goes much better with your tongue upside down- so you can't blame him! His favorite foods are apple pancakes and hamburgers.

Last but not least, Charlie took his first steps by himself on his 16 month birthday. A week later he was walking across rooms, and today he ran for the first time! I guess things will probably continue to speed along now! Charlie is such a sweet, cuddley little guy! I understand now what my mom always said about wanting to bottle us up in the toddler stage and keep us there for a while. :)
